Using Pinterest in Education
Having recently returned to wonderful world of education after a 14 year hiatus at home with the kids, I was initially surprised to see how much technology has infiltrated the education scene, especially at the high school level! I am currently teaching Spanish 1 & 2 in high school and have been trying to negotiate all the forms of technology that can enhance my students' learning experience.
Having learned all about YouTube from my kids at home (3 teens!), I find myself searching that site regularly for songs, shows, grammar helps, etc. that I can use in my class. I have experienced some success with this source but I continue to search for more, more, more!
My M.Ed. is in Curriculum & Instruction so I tend to be a curriculum junkie, always in search of new ways to teach or re-teach a topic! One of my go-to sites for home decorating and crafting has been Pinterest, so I thought that I would see what great ideas I could find there! Pinterest is most definitely a wonderful place for teachers of all levels and subject areas! Organizational ideas, curriculum ideas, classroom management helps, the list is just endless!
A great starting point for the Pinterest novice can be found in a YouTube tutorial video, which I found to be very helpful. The link has been posted on my blog and is definitely worth the 10 minutes it takes to view it. Everything from creating an account to setting up boards to organize your prize finds to following a post... really well done by Miss E Dutton, who is a librarian in the UK. She also has posted a few other YouTube tutorials that I will post on my blog as well. She has the knack for summarizing it succinctly for the viewer who wants to learn more!
